THE SAVAGE TREK

HUMANTAY LAKE

HUMANTAY is a beautiful glacial lagoon located in the Peruvian Andes, it is located at an altitude of approximately 4,200 meters above sea level and is surrounded by impressive snow-capped peaks and glaciers. The intense turquoise color of its waters comes from the minerals present in the glacial melt. You can also take advantage of the opportunity to take short walks around the lagoon and enjoy the panoramic views.

ITINERARY

DAY 1

Our guide will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco at 4:30 am. We will travel in comfortable transportation to Mollepata (approx. 2 hours), where we will have a nutritious breakfast. Then for one more hour in our transport we will go to Soraypampa (3,900 meters / 12,795 feet), Here will be the beginning of the walk that will take us to the Humantay lagoon (4,220 meters / 13,850 feet) after an hour and a half we will have an incredible view where the lagoon appears blue-green and the snow-capped peak of the Humantay mountain behind, making it one of the most impressive places in the Andes Mountains. We will take some time to admire the impressive views and then we will descend to our camp, after another climb we will arrive at Sakantaypampa (4100 meters/13,450 feet). We will have time to relax and enjoy a delicious lunch prepared by our chef. Then we will enjoy the sunset with a delicious tea at night, dinner and rest.

DAY 2

This day begins with a delicious coca tea at 5:00 am then we will enjoy a nutritious breakfast. We will start our hike from Salkantaypampa, we will ascend for 3 hours to the highest point of Abra Salkantay, where we will enjoy stunning views of the snow-capped mountains of Salkantay, Humantay, Tucarhuay and Pumasillo (4,650 meters / 15,250 feet) after a ritual towards the mountains We will begin the descent to Huayracmachay for 3 hours (3,800 meters / 12,470 feet). There we will have lunch and then we will continue our descent for 3 more hours until we reach our next camp in Chaullay (2900 meters/ 9,500). We will have tea and a delicious dinner prepared by our chef. And to rest.

DAY 3

They will wake us up with a delicious coca tea, a nutritious breakfast and we will begin another day of adventure as we have to pass through the Cuzco Amazon. This part of the walk marks the cloud forest, where we will discover several coffee plantations (we will have the opportunity to prepare our own coffee) The Flora is impressive, we will also appreciate orchids and many natural plants used for medicine. Upon arriving in Lucmabamba it will be the point of lunch and in the afternoon you will have the option to visit the Qoqalmayo thermal baths (not included) and at night you will have a delicious dinner and rest.

DAY 4

After a nutritious breakfast we will prepare for the next part of our adventure. Finally we will walk a part of the original Inca Trail!, enjoying the beautiful views of the Santa Teresa Valley. After an ascent of 2 hours and 30 minutes, we will arrive at the Inca archaeological site of LLACTAPATA. Our guide will share his knowledge about the history of this place. In addition, we will have the opportunity to see Machu Picchu mountain and Huayna Picchu mountain for the first time. We will descend towards the Hydroelectric plant where we will have lunch, then we will have to walk for another 3 hours next to the train line and then arrive at Aguas Calientes. We will settle in our respective hotel, we will enjoy a delicious dinner in a local restaurant in the town, then we will go to rest.

DAY 5

Very early after breakfast at 5:30 am we will take the bus to be one of the first groups to arrive at the Machupicchu llaqta, the Inka city, which will allow us to enjoy the majestic sunrise, then we will have a guided tour of the most important sites. Inka temples and palaces with your guide for approximately 2 hours, then you can explore the mysterious Inka city on your own. (optional hike up the mountain of Machu Picchu or Huayna Picchu has an extra cost of $70 USD per person). We will descend to the town of Aguas Calientes where you can enjoy your lunch and then we will go to the train station to return to Ollantaytambo to then take a van to Cusco, our average time to arrive will be 8:00 PM, next to the main square.
